Whether you see them at the mall or on TV, it seems everyone has a perfect smile these days. But if you’re hiding your smile because it doesn’t quite measure up to your expectations, we might have a solution for you — dental veneers. These thin porcelain shells cover the front of your teeth to fix flaws and give you a whiter and brighter smile almost instantly.
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, porcelain shells designed to look like your teeth. At Straight Teeth Orthodontics, we use veneers as a tool to give you the smile you’ve always wanted. We may recommend the durable, cosmetic dental shells to fix a number of smile flaws, including:
- Discoloration
- Gaps between teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Teeth or smile imperfections
Veneers are especially beneficial if your teeth can’t be brightened with teeth whitening products because your stains are underneath the enamel. And if you have only one tooth that’s discolored or flawed in any other way, we can custom tint your veneer to match your natural teeth, so they all look the same.
Each veneer is designed to fit your tooth for a secure fit and perfect look.
1-2-3, say cheese
Unlike braces and crowns, veneers are an almost instant fix for a brighter smile. We can have you smiling and ready to say “cheese” in just two visits to the office.
During the first visit, we prepare your tooth for the veneer by shaving off a minuscule layer of your enamel so the shell sits naturally and comfortably on your tooth. Then we take a mold of your teeth, which is used to create your custom veneers for a perfect fit.
We place temporary veneers over your teeth to protect them while your permanent veneers are being made. We also go over all your veneer tint options, so you can decide how bright you’d like your new smile.
Once your veneers are ready, you come back to the office for bonding. We use a special cement and curing light to secure the veneers to your teeth. During placement of your permanent veneers, we take our time to make sure each veneer is properly shaped to give you the most natural look.
Keeping your veneers bright
Depending on the material they’re made of, veneers may be more stain resistant than your natural teeth. Still, you may want to limit staining liquids, such as coffee, tea, and wine to help your veneers stay their whitest.
To keep your teeth and veneers healthy and strong, continue to brush and floss like you would your natural teeth. We do, however, recommend using a nonabrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush with your veneers to prevent scratching.
We also recommend you come to the office for your regularly scheduled professional cleanings, and we’ll check your veneers at each visit.
With the right treatment and care, your veneers will brighten your everyday smile for 10 or more years.
